San Leon Fire Department responded to its first call of 2026 just over an hour into the New Year, at 1:14 a.m., for a reported fire in the 2700 block of Bayshore Drive near Spillway Park. Upon arrival, crews from San Leon Booster 1 located a trash fire involving a park trashcan. The fire was quickly extinguished and did not cause further damage.

Within the same hour, at 1:52 a.m., San Leon Fire was dispatched to another incident involving a brush and tree fire in the 2000 block of Avenue K. When Booster 1 arrived, firefighters discovered a fire affecting grass, trees, and a stand of bamboo, with several nearby exposures at risk. San Leon Engine 3 was called to the scene to provide additional water and manpower. An engine and booster truck from Bacliff Fire were also requested to assist with containing and extinguishing the fire. The incident was brought under control and fully extinguished within an hour of the initial crew’s arrival.
