| Last year was exceptionally busy for the San Leon Fire Department, with 2025 setting a new record for emergency calls. The previous high was set in 2012, when the department responded to 1,015 calls. In 2025, firefighters responded to 1,105 calls—an increase of 90 compared to the prior record. This equates to an average of approximately three emergency calls every 24 hours.
In response to the growing number of incidents, the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department is actively seeking new volunteers. Community members interested in becoming San Leon volunteer firefighters are encouraged to participate in the department's ongoing recruitment campaign. The campaign is designed to raise public awareness about the need for fire service volunteers and to successfully recruit and retain new members.
Recruiters will be available at the fire station every Tuesday and Thursday from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m. to provide information and assist community members in starting their volunteer journey. Interested individuals are encouraged to visit the station, ask questions, and begin the application process. Fires can happen at any time—and now is the opportunity to join the ranks of the San Leon Volunteer Firefighters. |
