| Last night, the San Leon Volunteer Fire Department conducted training on water supply operations, focusing on the use of a hydrant assist valve. A hydrant assist valve is used to help maintain strong water pressure when long supply hoses are needed. When a supply line extends more than 300 feet, the water pressure reaching the pumper can drop. For every 100 feet of hose, approximately 20 PSI of pressure can be lost due to friction. To restore the lost pressure, another pumper can connect to the hydrant assist valve. This pumper boosts the water supply, ensuring that strong pressure reaches the truck actively fighting the fire. |
