| The San Leon Volunteer Fire Department was dispatched to assist the Texas City Fire Department with a commercial structure fire at the former Tradewinds movie theater.
Due to extreme heat conditions and the size of the commercial building, multiple agencies from throughout Galveston County responded to provide support. San Leon Engine 1 arrived at the location and joined crews working at the scene.
While crews were managing the commercial fire, another fully involved fire was reported in Texas City. San Leon personnel were released from the first scene and responded to the second incident near Highway 146 and Area 51, assisting with fire suppression operations.
After the second fire was controlled, San Leon crews were assigned to Texas City Fire Department Station 1, providing coverage for the city and its more than 60,000 residents while Texas City crews continued working at the incident scenes.
These events highlight the importance of mutual aid, ongoing training, and teamwork within the fire service. When a neighboring community requires support, departments must be ready to respond, collaborate, and ensure that everyone remains protected.
