SAN LEON FIRE RESPONDS TO, TWO REPORTED FIRES — TWO ILLEGAL BURNS

The San Leon Fire responded to two separate fire incidents tonight.

The first call came from the 600 block of 13th Street, where flames were reported visible in the trees. Firefighters arrived on scene and determined the fire was an illegal burn. Crews quickly extinguished the fire before it could spread further.

Several hours later, another call was received for a possible building fire. San Leon Engine 1 arrived to find heavy smoke coming from the yard, which initially made it difficult to identify the source. After a complete assessment of the property, responders determined a second illegal burn was taking place behind the residence. Crews again acted swiftly to extinguish the fire.

Galveston County continues to be under a burn ban. These restrictions are in place due to dry conditions, which can allow a small fire to rapidly grow and threaten grass, brush, or structures in minutes.

The public is reminded not to burn outdoors while the burn ban is in effect.
