| As we shared, San Leon Fire Department recently donated PPE that had reached the end of its compliant service life here in the United States — but that equipment can still make a tremendous difference for firefighters who may otherwise have little or no protective gear.
That donation will benefit four different fire departments in Mexico.
But this relationship didn’t start yesterday.
Approximately two months ago, a news reporter traveled from Mexico to San Leon to interview our department and learn firsthand how we operate. They also came to personally thank our members for the international training, support, and equipment donations we have provided to firefighters in Mexico over the years.
For us, this is what the fire service is about.
Borders don’t matter when the tones drop. A firefighter is a firefighter. A brother is a brother. A sister is a sister.
If equipment that can no longer be placed in service here can help protect a firefighter somewhere else, give them a better chance of going home to their family, or help a department better protect its community, then it still has a purpose.
We will continue helping our brothers and sisters whenever and wherever we can.
