San Leon Fire was requested for mutual aid assistance in Texas City, along with Dickinson Fire Department and Bacliff Fire Department, for a large mulch pile fire that had begun spreading into the surrounding brush.
San Leon responded with Booster 1, providing additional water suppression and manpower to assist crews working the fire.
Due to the large amount of mulch involved, crews remained on scene for several hours working to bring the fire under control and extinguish hot spots deep within the material.
After several hours of coordinated firefighting operations, the fire was brought under control.
Because mulch can retain significant heat below the surface, there remains a possibility of rekindling. Texas City crews will continue monitoring the area for any additional flare-ups.
Another strong example of why mutual aid matters. When one department needs help, neighboring departments answer the call.
Great teamwork by Texas City, Dickinson, Bacliff, and San Leon Fire Departments.
