Training is critical—but making sure our apparatus, equipment, and PPE are ready is just as important.
A working fire is not the time to discover that your ventilation saw won’t start, your SCBA batteries are dead, your air cylinder wasn’t refilled, or a critical tool is missing.
Thursday is truck-detail night at San Leon Volunteer Fire Department. In the volunteer fire service, members also inspect their assigned apparatus at the beginning of every shift. Every truck, tool, air pack, and piece of equipment must be checked and ready—because lives depend on it.
Tonight, our members are learning to use our new software program, PSTrax that is used on your phone, tablet, pc ect. This system helps us track inspections and maintenance schedules while improving compliance, traceability, and accountability throughout the department.
When the tones drop, there are no excuses. Our equipment must work—and our firefighters must be ready.
